About Rob

Rob Klein, the son and brother of accomplished musicians, played his first organist gig at 13 and studied through high school under Jazz multi-instrumentalist Steve Miller of Kansas City. His diversity and range of musical experience has taken him from high school glee club president and musical lead to jazz, R&B and rock venues to club scenes to a solo engagement at Fort Hood Army Base and a dance performance with the Missouri Dance Theater.  In college Rob was president of the University of Texas Varsity Singers and member of the University of Kansas Chamber Choir.  He soloed and joined in various bands in Kansas City and performed at events honoring such dignitaries as Walter Cronkite, Henry Kissinger and Lady Bird Johnson.

Rob has played in numerous bands and venues in Boston and New England, including a five-year summer engagement at the West Deck in Newport, RI, and stints as keyboardist to Louise Grasmere and Jeez La Weez. Other venues have included The Western Front, Harper's Ferry, Four Seasons Boston, Boston Park Plaza, Gateways Inn-Lenox, Hynes Convention Center, the State Room and the Moakley U.S. Court House.  Of all Rob's musical experiences, his proudest was his piano/vocal performance at show-and-tell day at the Kindergarten class of his daughter, Melissa.  By day, Rob practices as a psychiatrist in Boston.

Rob is available for hire as a keyboardist/vocalist for cocktail functions, club engagements, weddings, religious and other milestone celebrations, subbing for keyboardists and vocalists, and studio work.   His range of music performance includes jazz standards, 60's, 70's and 80's rock and pop, R&B, funk, mellow mafia and custom program requests.  Rob's approach to his musical renditions is "to go beyond covering and comping the songs I play and reprise the energy of the performance as well as its artists and times. Music infuses our humanity at each generation, and the emotions we experience in hearing (and performing) music let us feel the fundamental threads that tie each of us together at all ages."

Rob is versatile on piano, Hammond B3/clones and various synths.  His current instrument is a Nord Stage 2-88 and his rehearsal baby is a 1928 Camilleri Brothers-restored Mason and Hamlin AA.
